This series of three field guides reimagines the world of Bengali ghost stories through history, categorization, and deconstruction. Each volume explores the evolution of supernatural folklore, classifies spirits across cultural narratives, and reinterprets these stories through a contemporary lens. Blending research and bold visual storytelling, Bengali ghost series reflects on how these spectral tales continue to shape Bengal’s cultural identity.

A key challenge was designing distinct grid structures for each folio while maintaining a cohesive visual language across the series. Each guide—focused on history, categorization, and deconstruction—demanded its own rhythm and spatial logic. Balancing dense textual research with atmospheric illustrations required constant manipulation of hierarchical grids, flexible modules, and unconventional alignments. I had to push the traditional grid beyond strict functionality, allowing it to support narrative flow while preserving legibility and emotional impact across varying content types.

ur Fragmented Past reimagines Bengali ghost stories as celebrations of cultural creativity rather than cautionary myths. As a Bengali woman who grew up with these tales, I wanted to move beyond the fear and stereotypes they often carried, instead highlighting the richness and imagination of Bengali literature. Through layered visuals and evolving grid structures, this project offers a personal and collective reclamation of storytelling.
